PageRank is a Google metric developed to measure the importance of web pages, giving them a score from 0 to 10 based on the number and quality of backlinks. A high score helped pages rank better, and links from other high-PageRank sites were especially valuable. Manipulation and link selling eventually led Google to stop publishing PageRank updates, so webmasters now rely on estimated scores from other tools.
