Brand anchor text is a link where the clickable words are the brand's own name rather than a keyword describing what the linked page covers. An article mentioning Zeo, for example, might link the word "Zeo" itself to https://zeo.org/, instead of linking a phrase like "SEO agency" or "digital marketing services."
It's one of the safest anchor text types precisely because it's how people naturally reference a brand in conversation, which is what a natural link profile is supposed to look like. Sites that lean too heavily on exact-match or money anchors, phrases that closely match a target keyword, build a link profile that looks engineered rather than earned, and that pattern is one of the signals search engines use to flag manipulative link building. A healthy link profile is usually dominated by brand and generic anchors (the brand name, the bare URL, "click here," "this article"), with keyword-rich anchors making up a smaller, more natural-looking share. That's the appropriate proportion the practice calls for: brand mentions as the majority, not the exception.
